Press Release

CANADA is pleased to present Xylor Jane's fourth solo show at the gallery.

"The Nox Rex series began in 2010 and consists of 28 paintings. They are conceived in the wee hours of morning when the world is dark, quiet and still in my life. I started waking up at 3:07 am in 1993, and since beginning the NR series, I only allow myself to think about painting during these hours awake. Many of the resulting ideas are bad and some are fruitful starts. Examples: double grid, Red And Blue, tessellate, obfuscation, "and radiate" (see Blondie). It takes time for me to understand how to bring the gems to painting. Multiple attempts, with the paintings rejecting many of my sketches and moves, lead to the occasional winner." -Xylor Jane, 2012
