David Askevold

David Askevold (b. Montana 1940, d. Halifax 2008) was a first-generation conceptual artist who pioneered video art, conceptual photography, and performance.

He taught at Cal Arts, UC Irvine, and Art Center from 1975 to 1981, and was the chair of the video department at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design from 1968 through the 1980s. Up until his passing in 2008, Askevold presented several exhibitions with CANADA. These performances, videos, and photo works helped shape the direction of the gallery’s programming and impacted many of the young artists involved in this gallery.
